Named with a subtle nod toward the iconic song, Apple’s “California Streaming” keynote event brought a plethora of exciting new products, headlined by the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro family, a new Apple Watch, a new starter iPad, and a revamped iPad mini. The gadgets feature countless design and hardware upgrades, and you can order some of them as soon as today. Here’s a look at the latest from Apple.

iPad

  • Faster A13 Bionic chip

  • Upgraded FaceTime camera with Center Stage

  • Entry-level variant has 64GB of storage

Apple unveiled a new entry-level 10.2-inch iPad with a more powerful A13 Bionic chip and the same $329 starting price. The latter offers noteworthy upgrades over the A12 chip in the 2020 iPad iteration. Design-wise, the new iPad looks similar to the model it replaces.

The device’s FaceTime camera has also undergone significant upgrades with a new 12MP ultra wide sensor. A groundbreaking feature of the latest iPad Pro, Center Stage, is now available on the starter iPad as well.

The new iPad is available to preorder today in silver or space gray with 64 or 128GB of onboard storage.

iPad mini

  • All-new design with a bigger screen, slimmer bezels

  • Apple A15 Bionic chip and 5G connectivity

  • Compatible with second-generation Apple Pencil

More than two years after launching the previous iteration, Apple unveiled a thoroughly redesigned iPad mini with optional 5G network connectivity and compatibility with the second-generation Apple Pencil. The compact slate features similar looks as last year’s iPad Air with a Touch ID sensor that’s integrated into its power button, as well as a USB-C connector.

The iPad mini has a bigger 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display with slim bezels. Its cameras have been upgraded as well — the 12MP main snapper can capture 4K video, while the front-facing one has a 12.2MP sensor with Center Stage tech. Unlike its predecessor, the new iPad mini can also deliver stereo sound in landscape mode.

With the A15 Bionic chip on board, the iPad mini is sure to become today's most powerful and capable compact tablet on the market. Apple's latest chip is also a centerpiece of the latest iPhones.

The iPad mini starts at $499 for a model with 64GB of storage. You can order it with up to 256GB of memory. Its recycled aluminum enclosure is available in a quartet of colors: space gray, pink, purple, and starlight.

Apple Watch

  • Bigger 41- and 45-millimeter cases

  • Larger screen with much thinner borders

  • Faster overall performance and charging

Apple unveiled an all-new Apple Watch Series 7, which will replace the Apple Watch Series 6. The revamped timepiece has a new design with a 41- or a 45-millimeter case, as well as a bigger and brighter Retina display, next-level durability, and 33 percent faster charging.

Compared to its predecessor, the Apple Watch Series 7’s screen has a 20 percent bigger panel and 40 percent thinner borders, making it Apple’s largest and most advanced Apple Watch display to date. Apple watchOS 8 has been designed to take advantage of the timepiece’s bigger panel with access to plenty of new features such as watch faces and complications.

The Apple Watch Series 7 case also has softer corners and a crack-resistant screen. In addition to being fully waterproof, the housing is also fully dust-resistant, with an impressive IP6X rating.

Pricing of the Apple Watch Series 7 kicks off at $399. You can choose between an aluminum housing in several colors (midnight, starlight, green, blue, and (PRODUCT)RED), as well as pricier stainless steel and titanium versions. Once again, Apple has developed products in collaboration with Nike and the fashion powerhouse Hermès to create versions of the product.

iPhone 13

  • Apple A15 Bionic chip and upgraded dual camera

  • Available with 5.4- or 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display

  • Entry-level model has 128GB of storage

The iPhone 13 brings exciting improvements to its camera and battery — but its standout feature that has everyone talking is its new A15 Bionic chip, which greatly improves its graphics abilities. The iPhone 13 also has a brighter and more power-efficient Super Retina display with a smaller notch and an updated flat-edge design with a new camera layout, whose lenses have a diagonal placement.

As we already mentioned, Apple has equipped the iPhone 13 with the A15 Bionic chip. The new silicon brings a six-core CPU and a four-core GPU. Apple noted that the CPU is up to 50 percent than a leading smartphone chip. An upgraded Neural Engine is also onboard for more seamless augmented reality experiences.

The iPhone 13 has an updated dual camera whose big sensor has larger pixels and sensor-shift optical image stabilization. The last-mentioned bit set the iPhone 12 Pro Max apart from all other iPhones last year. The device’s ultra-wide camera is also better.

When it comes to video recording, the iPhone 13 is the first to bring Cinematic mode, a feature that brings seamless focus transitions just like a pro-grade camcorder. It can keep an object of one’s choosing in focus and output 4K content with Dolby Vision.

Of course, the iPhone 13 also rocks upgraded 5G with more bands and MagSafe tech. Thanks to a bigger battery on board, its battery life is also longer than the iPhone 12’s.

Pricing of the iPhone 13 mini starts at $699 for a 128GB model with double the storage of its predecessor. The iPhone 13 costs just $100 more and can be equipped with up to 512GB of storage.

iPhone 13 Pro

  • Apple A15 Bionic chip

  • Available with a 6.1- or a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion

  • Up to 1TB of onboard storage

The iPhone 13 Pro is equal parts tough and elegant, thanks to its stainless steel frame. It has an all-new display, an elevated camera system, and the A15 Bionic chip with a 5-core GPU (the fastest in a smartphone yet). The iPhone 13 Pro also delivers an even better battery life than the iPhone 12 Pro.

Available with a brighter 6.1- and a 6.7-inch panel, the Super Retina XDR display is the first with ProMotion tech. The latter brings a high-refresh rate for faster, more fluid, and more enjoyable interactions and experiences.

The phone has an exciting all-new camera setup with a brighter main lens, a 3X optical zoom snapper, and an updated ultra-wide unit. Macro photography is also available on the camera, allowing you to focus on objects less than an inch away. The camera interface is also improved to include more creative tools, including Photographic Styles. Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 13 Pro offers the new Cinematic mode for video recording as well.

The iPhone 13 Pro will start at $999 for a 128GB version, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max will cost $1,099. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to spec the device with up to 1TB of onboard storage. Rather impressively, its packaging lacks any plastic wrap in an effort to help bring Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from all packaging by 2025.
