Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan's last voicemail was happy, positive
A voicemail from late Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan has surfaced — apparently her last one ever — and it portrays the singer in a positive, upbeat mood.
The Jan. 15 message, which was obtained by TMZ (hear it here) was left on the day of her death. It was evidently to her friend the record label executive Dan Waite. In it O’Riordan noted she was in London and discussed a cover of the Cranberries hit “Zombie” by the band Bad Wolves.
“I think it’s f***ing awesome! It sounds f***ing terribly good,” she said enthusiastically of the track.
O’Riordan was set to record her vocals over the band’s version of the hit, and she sounded excited about the project. “I think I can come into the studio if you need me,” she said.
The time stamp of the voicemail was 1:12 a.m. London time. She would be found dead in her hotel room just a few hours later, at 9 a.m.
Fans have speculated that her death may have been a suicide, taking into account the 46-year-old’s history with depression. However, her official cause of death has yet to be disclosed.
The Bad Wolves cover of “Zombie” was released a month after her death, with the band earmarking proceeds for the late singer’s three children. It has, to date, racked up more than 28 million views on YouTube.
Last month, the Cranberries’ surviving members announced two upcoming releases: an unnamed studio album featuring contributions from O’Riordan and a 25th-anniversary reissue of Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?, which was originally released in March 1993.
