Fans suspect Selena Gomez's lovelorn new ballad 'Back to You' is about Justin Bieber
Selena Gomez dropped her newest single, “Back to You,” on Thursday. The sweet ballad, set to appear on the soundtrack for the second season of 13 Reasons Why, touches on regret about a past relationship and how the singer would “do it all again.”
The chorus of the song is particularly lovelorn: “You could break my heart in two / But when it heals, it beats for you / I know it’s forward but it’s true / I wanna hold you when I’m not supposed to / When I’m laying close to someone else.”
Of course, fans immediately jumped to identify who Gomez might be singing about, with the consensus being overwhelmingly in favor of her infamously on-again, off-again ex Justin Bieber.
Despite the fact that news circulated Wednesday that Gomez has “completely moved on” from Bieber and is “not interested in getting back together with him anytime soon,” social media reactions insisted on pointing in favor of the Biebs being the muse behind the tune. (The pair rekindled their romance most recently in November, ultimately falling apart again in March.)
#BackToYou from Selena Gomez is a masterpiece. I truly believe that it is about her relationship with Justin Bieber, what do you guys think?

A few fans protested that the song is probably about Gomez’s other famous ex, Abel Tesfaye, aka the Weeknd.
Those lyrics … I mean isn’t it obvious who back to you is about? Abel. Duh.

Still others had the more practical opinion that the song has nothing to do with any of Gomez’s exes.
Again people #BackToYou is not about Justin.. It's written for the show.

Gomez herself didn’t give away any definitive clues. She debuted the track with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 radio and merely noted, “I want [this] to be a beautiful message in a really complicated way, but really fun.”
The 13 Reasons Why (Season 2) Soundtrack will be released on May 18 and is available for preorder here.
