In the world of American full-size pickups, more is always better. As such, Ford introduced a new "high-output" version of its 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8 for the 2023 Super Duty, which thanks in part to a larger turbocharger, generates 500 horsepower and 1200 lb-ft of torque. Seems like a lot.

Ford proudly points out this is, indeed, a lot, both of these figures being best in class and beating the standard 6.7's 475 hp and 1050 lb-ft of torque. The upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD offer 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque from their Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8, while the Ram Heavy Duty offers 420 hp and 1075 lb-ft from its 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six.

With this engine, the new F-450 can tow up to 40,000 pounds with a gooseneck trailer, while a dual-rear-wheel F-350 has a payload capacity of 8000 pounds. Gas-powered Super Duties aren't too shabby either—an F-350 dual-rear-wheel with the 7.3-liter V-8 can tow up to 22,000 pounds. Power for the 7.3 remains unchanged at 430 hp though torque gets a 10 lb-ft boost to 485 lb-ft. Ford also announced outputs for the new 6.8-liter base engine—405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, which easily beats the old 6.2's 385 hp and 430 lb-ft.

Base price for the 2023 Super Duty is $45,765, a fairly large jump over the 2022's $42,240 MSRP. Order books are open today, with deliveries planned for early next year.
