Green Plains: 4Q Earnings Snapshot

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc. (GPRE) on Tuesday reported a loss of $49.6 million in its fourth quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Omaha, Nebraska-based company said it had a loss of $1.43. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 53 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 31 cents per share.

The ethanol production, marketing and commodities company posted revenue of $478.8 million in the period.

For the year, the company reported that its loss narrowed to $108.8 million, or $3.14 per share. Revenue was reported as $1.92 billion.

Green Plains shares have climbed 71% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $22.51, a climb of 78% in the last 12 months.
