"When I was really skinny, I wanted to kill myself," Clarkson revealed. "I was miserable, like inside and out, for four years of my life. But no one cared, because aesthetically you make sense. It was a very dark time for me. I thought the only way out was quitting. I like wrecked my knees and my feet because all I would do is put in headphones and run. I was at the gym all the time."

"I was around some really negative people, and I got out of it because I had a lot of great people there, too," she continued. "It was a case of turning around, facing them and walking toward the light."

Clarkson had a famously contentious relationship with her record label, RCA, which she was signed to upon becoming the first winner of "American Idol" back in 2002. Legendary record exec, Clive Davis, and Clarkson butted heads when it came to the creative direction of her career, particularly over her album My December.

In her interview with Attitude, the 35-year-old said that she felt pressure from those at her label to be "really skinny," which ultimately became too much for her.

Now, Clarkson is much happier with Atlantic Records, who she signed to back in June 2016. Her first album with Atlantic, Meaning of Life, will be released on Friday, Oct. 27.
