Maisie Williams’ cropped bob takes the trend to new heights—literally

Ever since wrapping the final season of Game of Thrones last November, Maisie Williams has been sporting some seriously vibrant hair colors. There’s been her My Little Pony-inspired pink hair, a few brief forays into lilac, and two different variations of blonde—a sandy, beachy shade and a gorgeous cherry blonde—all before going back to bubblegum. After leaving Arya behind, 2019 has been a year of hair experimentation for the actress.

But at the 2019 Emmy Awards, she debuted an entirely different hair look altogether, and we love it.

Williams went back to her roots with a brunette cropped bob, and according to her stylist, the new look represents a major change in her life.

Hair guru Ryan Richman told Teen Vogue he chose the style to “take Maisie in a more mature direction, as she is exploring new roles now that Game of Thrones has come to an end. The first step was changing her hair color from pink to a natural brunette.”

Richman also chopped the 22-year-old’s strands into a chic, chin-grazing cropped bob, which gives her soft waves and keeps her signature blunt bangs in tow.

Here’s a look at Williams’ hair just a week earlier, for reference.

And here’s her brand new brunette bob at the 2019 Emmys. So sophisticated.

Richman revealed that he used exclusively drugstore-brand Dove products on Williams.

He started with Dove Color Care Shampoo and Dove Color Protect Conditioner to protect her new color. He then applied Dove Style+Care Volume & Fullness Mousse to her towel-dried strands, before rough-drying with a blow dryer to create that gorgeous height.

He then used a 1-inch flat iron and bent Williams’ hair into an “S” pattern from root to ends, spraying each wave with Dove Style+Care Compressed Micro Mist Flexible Hold Hairspray for texture, topping the look off with Dove Care Between Washes Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo for volume galore, and pinning it back on one side to show off her stunning ear bling.

While we’re still sad that Game of Thrones has come to an end, we love that Williams is trying out a bold hair change to represent this new chapter in her life. With a slew of new projects in the works for 2020 already, we can’t wait to see what she (and her gorgeous cropped bob) has in the works.
