Stars react to death of Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin: 'Greatest vocalist I've ever known'

Tributes are pouring in for the late, great Aretha Franklin, who passed away this week at the age of 76.

"Salute to the Queen," tweeted John Legend after learning of Franklin's passing. "The greatest vocalist I've ever known."

Barbra Streisand also weighed in, writing, "It’s difficult to conceive of a world without her. Not only was she a uniquely brilliant singer, but her commitment to civil rights made an indelible impact on the world."

While many of those mourning Franklin's death are fellow artists, her impact was felt well beyond the music industry.

"Trailblazer, icon, and Queen," mused soccer star Mia Hamm. "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

News of Franklin's waning health emerged days before her death, eliciting reactions and well-wishings from famous faces across the globe.

"Like people all around the world, Hillary and I are thinking about Aretha Franklin tonight & listening to her music that has been such an important part of our lives the last 50 years," President Bill Clinton wrote. "We hope you’ll lift her up by listening and sharing her songs that have meant the most to you."

Days before her death, the icon received a visit in hospice from Stevie Wonder, who reportedly said his goodbyes to his longtime friend.

In addition to Wonder, Franklin collaborated with countless artists over the years, including Elton John, James Brown, Tony Bennett and Ray Charles.

Franklin died in Detroit after years of private health battles.
