Woman faces charges after NC trooper hurled into roadway during traffic stop

A Hillsborough woman faces multiple charges after a state trooper was injured during a traffic stop late Friday night, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Around 11:45 p.m. Friday, Trooper D.R. Hudson pulled over a vehicle and was standing at its driver side door on U.S. 15-501 near Weymouth Street in Durham, according to an email from State Highway Patrol Sgt. Marcus Bethea.

Patricia Canseco Cortes, 26, was traveling south on U.S. 15-501 when she struck a rear quarter panel of the vehicle Hudson had pulled over, the email states.

The impact and related vehicle movement struck Hudson and hurled him into the roadway, the email states.

Hudson, who was able to call for help, was treated and released at a local hospital.

Cortes was charged with driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, driving without a license, and failure to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle. She was released Saturday from the Durham County jail on $5,000 bail.
