ST. PAUL, MN--(Marketwire - Jan 11, 2013) - Jefferson Lines bus company is launching a new transit center within the remodeled Union Depot in Minnesota's capital city. On January 14, 2013, the company will be the first ever to run inter-city buses from Union Depot. It will join the city buses, light rail, and Amtrak that have traditionally run through the station. Jefferson Lines' new transit center opens at a time of re-birth for the Depot, which just re-opened its doors to the public for the first time since 1971.

The building has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974. "We're extremely pleased to be part of this historic location and building," said Kevin Pursey, Jefferson Lines Director of Marketing and Culture. "We're really looking forward to pioneering bus operations in such a high-profile location." The 1920s-era building took two years and nearly a quarter billion dollars to rebuild, with construction dedicated to maintaining the Depot's historic look and appeal.

Jefferson Lines has been operating out of Midway Station on Transfer Road, but they will be moving all their bus routes to the new location at Union Depot. "We really like the location of Union Depot in Lowertown," said Pursey. "It gives passengers tremendous flexibility to reach St. Paul's downtown, Minnesota's state government buildings and to connect with train, light rail and other transportation options. You can get anywhere from here."

The bus company commemorated the grand re-opening of Union Depot on December 8, 2012, and plans to celebrate the launch of their new transit center by offering passengers a commemorative letterpress poster and discount vouchers on their first day of operation out of the Depot.

Jefferson Lines is a family-owned bus company founded in 1919 that is currently being run by the third generation to actively manage the business. The company is a member of the American Bus Association, United Motorcoach Association, National Tour Association and many other local visitor associations and chambers of commerce.
