Stocks rose on Monday as investors picked through indexes that are near all-time highs. The gains were small but widespread, with more than twice as many stocks rising as falling. The Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen for four weeks in a row and began this week with a gain. It has risen 15 out of the last 19 trading days. All 10 industry groups rose.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 23.57 points, or 0.2 percent, to close at 15,639.12.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 6.29 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,767.93.
The Nasdaq composite rose 14.55 points, or 0.4 percent, to 3,936.59.
For the year so far:
The Dow is up 2,534.98 points, or 19.3 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 341.74 points, or 24 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 917.08 points, or 30.4 percent.
