AT&T to Boost Network Services

AT&T Inc.(T), the second largest telecom operator in the U.S. after Verizon Communication Inc. (VZ) plans to offer high quality network services to international companies operating in the Chinese markets.

Such improved network services, which include various communication services like video conferencing, Virtual Private Network (:VPN) and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, will help these companies to improve operating efficiencies in the dragon empire.

AT&T is already offering its services to more than 600 corporate clients in China. In addition, the company is lending technical support to International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), which has strong presence in the Chinese markets.

In a bid to offer such enhanced services, AT&T had earlier teamed up with China’s one of the leading carrier China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (CHA). The partnership with China Telecom apart from enhancing the geographical coverage of AT&T will also enable the company to provide good service to the new and existing multinational companies operating in China. Moreover, both these companies have a joint venture with Shanghai Symphony Telecommunications Co. Ltd. (SST) from 2000 onwards, hence allowing AT&T to gain access to China Telecom's infrastructure.

Likewise, China Telecom and AT&T also deployed an NNI (Network to Network Interconnect) in New York and San Jose in the U.S., to facilitate China Telecom’s Ethernet and MPLS service range in the U.S. and other markets around the world, where the Chinese companies operate.

AT&T also struck similar agreements with other carriers around the world to offer quality services to other global corporate clients.

Currently, AT&T Inc. has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
