MEXICO CITY, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Mexican airline Volaris suspended flights to and from Guatemala City scheduled for Tuesday for security reasons, the firm's chief executive said on social media platform X, as protests continue following the country's election.

"Operational safety and fueling capacity are key to serving our customers," Volaris' CEO Enrique Beltranena said late Monday.

Ongoing protests entered their ninth straight day on Tuesday.

Guatemalans have taken to the streets to demand the resignation of authorities from the attorney general's office, which has faced

international accusations

of trying to undermine President-elect Bernardo Arevalo's landslide electoral victory in August.

Classes were suspended

in the capital Monday, and street blockades prompted authorities from neighboring El Salvador to help Guatemalan aircraft fill their tanks amid fuel shortages. (Reporting by Valentine Hilaire and Sofia Menchu; editing by Cassandra Garrison)
