10 Things To Know From Tesla's Model X Event
On Tuesday, electric car maker Tesla Motors (TSLA) unveiled its long-awaited Model X, a luxury sports-utility vehicle, at its factory in Fremont, California. It was a swanky affair, with CEO Elon Musk kicking off the event with an in-depth look at all the new features of the Model X.
Here’s everything you should know about Tesla’s Model X launch event:
1. There were between 4,000-6,000 event guests in attendance, which included Tesla employees, Model X reservation holders, Model S owners, and Roadster (the first Tesla car) owners.

2. It could take up to a year for some customers to receive the Model X, as Musk estimated that about 25,000 people had pre-ordered the SUV online or at Tesla retail locations.
3. The Model X comes with falcon-wing doors, which are more commonly seen on ritzy sports cars than SUVs. The doors open upward instead of to the side, and are controlled by sensors that can detect garage ceiling heights in order to clear it.

4. The vehicle comes with a panoramic windshield that extends all the way overhead. According to Musk, this is the largest piece of glass ever used in a car.
5. It comes equipped with a “bioweapon defense mode” button that when pushed, the car’s air filter, which is 10 times bigger than a normal car’s filter, should be able to keep passengers safe. Tesla claims it is 300 times better at filtering out bacteria, 500 times better at filtering out allergens, 700 times better at filtering out smog, and 800 times better at filtering out viruses.

6. The majority of Tesla’s existing innovative car technology is featured in the Model X, with an all-electric power-train, adjustable seating for seven, all-wheel drive, a "ludicrous" setting that can do 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, and a large center screen that conveniently houses the SUV’s controls.

7. Musk announced that the Model X was granted a five-star safety rating in all categories, making it one of the safest vehicles available.
8. The event showcased the “Signature” Model X, which is the most luxurious version of the SUV. It’s priced between $132,000-$144,000.

9. No pricing was revealed for the base version of the Model X, but customers can expect a lower-cost model in the future.
10. Customers can expect a software update to become available next month that comes with an auto-pilot function, allowing the Model X to be driven hands-free.
