Its shares traded with a price-earnings ratio of 8.99 and a price-sales ratio of 0.34 as of July 24.


Pilgrim's Pride is the second-largest poultry producer in the U.S. The U.S. region accounts for approximately two thirds of its sales revenue, while the UK represents a fifth and Mexico represents a tenth. The 2019 purchase of Tulip Limited, the UK's largest hog producer, marks the firm's entrance into the pork market, which is expected to represent about 10% of sales. Pilgrim sells its protein to chain restaurants, food processors and retail chains under brand names such as Pilgrim's, Country Pride, Gold'n Plump and Just Bare. Channel exposure is split evenly between retail and food service, with the majority of food-service revenue coming from quick-service restaurants. JBS USA, a leading producer of beef and pork in the U.S., owns 79% of Pilgrim's outstanding shares.

First quarter 2020 net income was $67.27 million compared to net income of $84.01 million for the first quarter of 2019.

Tootsie Roll Industries

The price of Tootsie Roll Industries Inc. (NYSE:TR) shares has declined to close to the 52-week low of $30.92, which is 23.2% off the 52-week high of $39.63. The company has a market cap of $2.13 billion.

Its shares traded with a price-earnings ratio of 30.58 and a price-sales ratio of 4.11. The trailing 12-month dividend yield is 1.14%. The forward dividend yield is 1.11%. The company had an annual average earnings growth of 3.50% over the past 10 years.

Tootsie Roll Industries manufactures and sells candy products. Notable varieties include Tootsie Roll and Tootsie Pops, Charms, Blow-Pops, Dots, Junior Mints, Sugar Daddy and Sugar Babies, Andes, Dubble Bubble and Razzles. The company sells its products to wholesale distributors and directly to retail stores. Geographically, it generates a majority of its revenue from the United States.

Net earnings for the quarter ended March 31 were $11.98 million compared to net earnings of $8.96 million for the prior-year period.
