AECOM Gets Sudan Contract from USAID
AECOM Technology Corporation (ACM) has received a contract from U.S. Agency for International Development (:USAID) for the South Sudan Viable Support to Transition and Stability (:VISTAS) program. The five-year contract is valued at $110 million.
VISTAS is primarily designed to boost citizens’ confidence and capacity to address the causes and consequences of political conflict, violence and instability. Therefore, as per the contract terms, AECOM will provide USAID with creative and flexible citizen-driven solutions that build government capacity to prevent, respond to and mitigate conflict; facilitate citizen participation in political and peace processes. In addition, the program will also engage youth and other vulnerable groups in productive social and economic activities.
USAID is the United States federal government agency responsible for administering civilian foreign aid. USAID's goals include providing economic, development and humanitarian assistance across the world. It primarily operates in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
The VISTAS program is an improvement on its previous South Sudan Transition and Conflict Mitigation program that had begun in 2009. The program primarily supported political and peace processes after South Sudan’s independence from the Republic of Sudan.
On Aug 8, AECOM had received an $18.7 million USAID contract in the Philippines to execute the Water Security for Resilient Economic Growth and Stability program, called “Be Secure”. As per the contract, AECOM will collaborate with the government of the Philippines to promote good governance and put together capacity increase in water security in order to achieve improved access to water services and more-resilient communities. Further, AECOM will work to improve sustainable water supply, advance wastewater-treatment service delivery and increase flexibility to climate-related water stress and hydrological extremes.
