Allen Iverson To Launch A Custom Cannabis Strain In Pennsylvania As A Result Of His Partnership With Black-Owned Viola Brands

Former NBA player Allen Iverson plans to disrupt the cannabis industry in Pennsylvania.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, his “Iverson ’01” strain of marijuana is being brought to the state in partnership with another former player Al Harrington and his Viola Brands, “the largest Black-owned cannabis brand producing premium products since 2011,” its website reads.

Iverson feels confident in Harrington’s ability to establish a presence in this industry, which made working with him a natural fit, according to Iverson. Their partnership was first established in 2021 with the release of the “Iverson ’96” strain, which references the year he was drafted into the NBA, joining the Philadelphia 76ers.

“I’ve had a lot of people approach me with business opportunities, but this one with Al was different,” Iverson told Forbes. “After seeing how devoted he is to this business, and him educating me on how beneficial the plant is, it just felt right. I’m excited to be a part of it. Together, we’re going to change the game.”

Having succeeded with the ’96 strain, the duo are expanding to Pennsylvania. This follows after they reached the New Jersey market in July 2023.

In Pennsylvania, customers will soon be able to purchase Viola cannabis—which will include the “Iverson ‘01” strain—exclusively at RISE medical marijuana dispensaries at launch, with other dispensaries to follow. According to information on Viola’s website the “Iverson ’01” strain will give customers a “euphoric, balanced body and head high.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer states customers can purchase Iverson’s strain for $45 (3.5 grams) and other Viola products for $40 (3.5 grams).

“Following the success of ’96, the Iverson Collection peaks high performance with the latest ’01 indicia-dominant hybrid strain,” a statement on Viola’s website reads. “Marking the year that the NBA Hall of Fame, Allen Iverson, was named MVP, ’01 is a euphoric variety with signature hops that puts it to the top of the roster of game-winning highs. Recognized for its super frosty mugs, dark shares of purple and citrusy scent, ’01 is unmatched.”

Soon, Iverson will join Harrington to celebrate the launch on Sept. 2. There will be a meet-and-greet at the new RISE, located at 3903 Aramingo Ave. in Port Richmond from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
