Amy Poehler blasts NRA for using 'Parks and Recreation' image to promote its agenda

The NRA just got a big nope from Leslie Knope.

Amy Poehler‘s lovable Parks and Recreation character, known for idolizing Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, briefly and inexplicably became the face of the gun lobby. The NRA’s Twitter account sent out a Knope GIF to thank spokeswoman and conservative radio host Dana Loesch for defending its interests in CNN’s Feb. 21 town hall debate on gun control in the wake of the mass shooting in Parkland, Fla.

The move didn’t sit well with Poehler and Parks and Recreation co-creator (and current showrunner of The Good Place) Michael Schur.

Using his Twitter handle “Ken Tremendous,” Schur demanded that the NRA remove the GIF because he didn’t want his work to “promote [their] pro-slaughter agenda.” He also passed on an irate message from Poehler, who played Knope from 2009 to 2015. As you can see, it’s short but to the point.

Many Parks and Rec fans joked that the show’s burly libertarian Ron Swanson would have been a more fitting GIF choice for the tweet. Not so, according to the actor who played him, Nick Offerman, who had his own four-letter warning to the NRA.

The tweet and Leslie Knope GIF have yet to be deleted.
