Analysts Just Made A Sizeable Upgrade To Their Camtek Ltd. (NASDAQ:CAMT) Forecasts

In this article:

Camtek Ltd. (NASDAQ:CAMT) shareholders will have a reason to smile today, with the analysts making substantial upgrades to this year's statutory forecasts. The consensus statutory numbers for both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) increased, with their view clearly much more bullish on the company's business prospects.

After this upgrade, Camtek's four analysts are now forecasting revenues of US$247m in 2021. This would be a sizeable 35% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are presumed to soar 64% to US$1.31. Before this latest update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of US$205m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$0.82 in 2021. So we can see there's been a pretty clear increase in analyst sentiment in recent times, with both revenues and earnings per share receiving a decent lift in the latest estimates.

It will come as no surprise to learn that the analysts have increased their price target for Camtek 24% to US$41.25 on the back of these upgrades. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. The most optimistic Camtek analyst has a price target of US$44.00 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$40.00. This is a very narrow spread of estimates, implying either that Camtek is an easy company to value, or - more likely - the analysts are relying heavily on some key assumptions.

Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. It's clear from the latest estimates that Camtek's rate of growth is expected to accelerate meaningfully, with the forecast 49% annualised revenue growth to the end of 2021 noticeably faster than its historical growth of 12% p.a. over the past five years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to grow their revenue at 8.4% per year. It seems obvious that, while the growth outlook is brighter than the recent past, the analysts also expect Camtek to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The biggest takeaway for us from these new estimates is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates, with improved earnings power expected for this year. They also upgraded their revenue estimates for this year, and sales are expected to grow faster than the wider market. With a serious upgrade to expectations and a rising price target, it might be time to take another look at Camtek.
