Anthony Davis could be out longer than expected with finger injury
New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis could miss more time than initially expected due to a finger injury. The team reportedly fears Davis is dealing with a fractured index finger, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Because of that, the 25-year-old Davis will meet with a hand specialist to determine the severity of the injury. If Davis has a fractured finger, he would be out for two-to-four weeks.
Davis injured his left index finger during Friday’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. On Saturday, the Pelicans announced Davis would miss a week or two with a finger sprain.
The injury comes with the trade deadline just two weeks away. Davis has been a popular name in trade rumors all season, though the Pelicans have been adamant they will not trade the young superstar.
Over 41 games, Davis has averaged 29.3 points and 13.3 rebounds. Despite his efforts, the Pelicans are 22-25 on the season.
The Pelicans managed to win their first game without Davis, taking down the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. They’ll take on the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday before being tested by a tough Oklahoma City Thunder team Thursday.
