Victoria Beckham is no stranger to a grand stage. For her Fall 2019 ready-to-wear show, the designer chose London’s Tate museum as the setting, propping up a runway down the central corridor and letting the elegant interior do the rest. “It was about celebrating the space and really having the clothes do all of the talking, which I think they did,” said Beckham after the show.

With more looks than ever before, the collection was a tour de force of all the things we’ve come to think of as so VB: leg-lengthening trousers; slick, city-ready boots; and elegantly—pardon the pun—posh eveningwear. There were also plenty of new notes, too, like a series of smart tweed pieces and the layering of prim sweaters over ’70s-looking collared shirts. For herself, the designer chose a combination of both the old and new worlds, telling Vogue, “I’m wearing the trousers now with a jumper and a shirt, and I’m probably not going to have time to change before the party tonight. I’ll be wearing the same trousers, and I’ll throw the jacket on, so it really is the perfect outfit that takes you through from day to night, literally, which I think is something that we always want in our wardrobe. It’s chic. It’s a great cut, a strong shoulder, a high-waisted pant that really does make your legs go on and on and on for days,” she paused. “And there is no woman that doesn’t want that.”

What’s more, thanks to the London location, Beckham’s whole family was able to attend the show—not just her husband, David, and their four children, but also her parents and her sister. “The great thing about being in London is this is something that my entire family and my friends can be a part of,” she said. “I never talk too much about what’s going on [at work], so they never have a clue about what they’re going to see, which is nice. It’s always a surprise.”
