Ariana Grande's "7 Rings" Was Reportedly Inspired by Her Engagement

But not the one you think.·Teen Vogue

The saga of Ariana Grande receiving an objectively gigantic engagement ring from her former fiancé Pete Davidson is one that will go down in pop culture history. Not only did Ariana reportedly pick the $100,000 diamond out through a text message, but she was spotted wearing it over a tattoo on her left ring finger that matched one Pete. Then, after the couple broke up, Ariana covered the tattoo with a bandage and returned the ring, ending her engagement-ring adventure for good... or at least for a few months.

In November, fans started guessing that her newest song would be titled "7 Rings,", which we now understand might be about seven new "engagement" rings in Ariana's life. According to TMZ, shortly after she and Pete broke up, Ariana took seven of her closest friends to the jewelry store to buy them each ring, and the new song is reportedly inspired by that.

Because Ariana is the queen of the teaser, we may have actually caught a glimpse of her and her friends' new accessories back in November, when the rumors first started. On Instagram Stories, Ariana and best friends Alexa Luria and Njomza showed off three of the seven stunning diamond rings.

Ariana's new single "7 Rings" is set to release Friday, so hopefully we'll get more insight about the enviable shopping spree then. Ready for my Winter 2019 bop!
