CARMEL, Ind. (AP) _ Assembly Biosciences Inc. (ASMB) on Wednesday reported a loss of $26.8 million in its second quarter.

The Carmel, Indiana-based company said it had a loss of $1.30 per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 90 cents per share.

The biotech drug developer posted revenue of $3.2 million in the period.

Assembly Biosciences shares have dropped nearly 6 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $42.61, an increase of 84 percent in the last 12 months.
