VERDUN, Quebec (AP) _ BCE Inc. (BCE) on Thursday reported second-quarter earnings of $585 million.

The Verdun, Quebec-based company said it had profit of 61 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 65 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 67 cents per share.

The Canada's largest telecommunications company posted revenue of $4.48 billion in the period, surpassing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.47 billion.

BCE shares have declined 14 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped 12 percent in the last 12 months.
