Bearish: Analysts Just Cut Their FTC Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ:FTCI) Revenue and EPS estimates

In this article:

One thing we could say about the analysts on FTC Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ:FTCI) - they aren't optimistic, having just made a major negative revision to their near-term (statutory) forecasts for the organization. Revenue and earnings per share (EPS) forecasts were both revised downwards, with the analysts seeing grey clouds on the horizon.

After the downgrade, the seven analysts covering FTC Solar are now predicting revenues of US$147m in 2024. If met, this would reflect a meaningful 16% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. The loss per share is anticipated to greatly reduce in the near future, narrowing 35% to US$0.26. However, before this estimates update, the consensus had been expecting revenues of US$232m and US$0.21 per share in losses. Ergo, there's been a clear change in sentiment, with the analysts administering a notable cut to this year's revenue estimates, while at the same time increasing their loss per share forecasts.

The consensus price target fell 30% to US$0.91, with the analysts clearly concerned about the company following the weaker revenue and earnings outlook.

Of course, another way to look at these forecasts is to place them into context against the industry itself. For example, we noticed that FTC Solar's rate of growth is expected to accelerate meaningfully, with revenues forecast to exhibit 16% growth to the end of 2024 on an annualised basis. That is well above its historical decline of 22% a year over the past three years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in the industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 8.2% per year. Not only are FTC Solar's revenues expected to improve, it seems that the analysts are also expecting it to grow faster than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to note from this downgrade is that the consensus increased its forecast losses this year, suggesting all may not be well at FTC Solar. While analysts did downgrade their revenue estimates, these forecasts still imply revenues will perform better than the wider market. With a serious cut to this year's expectations and a falling price target, we wouldn't be surprised if investors were becoming wary of FTC Solar.

With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for FTC Solar going out to 2026, and you can see them free on our platform here.
