Bebe Rexha: Pooch will help me through nerves of supporting Jonas Brothers
Bebe Rexha has said having her Insta-friendly pet pooch Bear will help get her through the nerves of supporting the Jonas Brothers on their worldwide tour.
The singer-songwriter, who has 8.7 million followers on Instagram, has co-written hits for Rihanna, Selena Gomez and Nick Jonas. Her ongoing collaborations with the Chainsmokers have garnered millions of streams online.
The 29-year-old’s hit I’m A Mess won her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist 2018, and this autumn she will support the Jonas Brothers’ Happiness Begins world tour, which comes to London next February.
She told the Standard: “I’m jumping on the Jonas Brothers tour for 62 shows.
“I don’t know how I’m going to keep going… I’m taking my dog Bear on the road with me, so that will help. And just taking care of myself and finally getting my own tour bus.”
The singer admitted she has a “love-hate relationship” with the online world and her Instagram fame, but highlighted the opportunities platforms create for young musicians.
She said: “I have a love-hate relationship with the internet. It can be really harsh, but when I started out there was SoundCloud and for most musicians it can be a way to connect and a way for us to be heard and seen. Songs can become huge.”
The singer has just collaborated with Londoner and two-time BRIT Award nominee Jax Jones to create new single, Harder.
The pair connected after Jones - real name Timucin Lam - texted Rexha to asked her if she would sing on his latest track.
Jones, a 31-year-old pop artist and DJ who also started out as a songwriter, said he hopes the track will be “the ultimate BBQ jam for summer”.
Rexha added: “I’ve been a fan of Jax for ages. It was great to collaborate directly and not just with emails through labels… It’s more creative this way.
“It’s a feel-good record, which is a nice departure for me.”
The single is out now and Jones’ new album, Snacks, will be released on September 6 via Polydor Records
