NEENAH, Wis. (AP) _ Bemis Co. (BMS) on Monday reported first-quarter net income of $60.4 million.

On a per-share basis, the Neenah, Wisconsin-based company said it had net income of 66 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 67 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 66 cents per share.

The packaging company posted revenue of $1 billion in the period, which matched Street forecasts.

Bemis shares have risen 21 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 16 percent. The stock has climbed 24 percent in the last 12 months.
