When you think of Black Friday shopping, you might think about nabbing a new TV, laptop, or smartphone. But don't overlook the kitchen: This is the best time of year for refrigerator deals.

Sale prices are at their lowest in November, even when compared with major appliance sale holidays like Presidents Day and Memorial Day. And a CR market analysis found that of all kitchen appliances, refrigerators see the biggest discounts at this time of year, compared with dishwashers and ranges.

To help you score the best deal on a refrigerator this Black Friday, we’ve combed through dozens of deals from major retailers, such as Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Sears, and more.

So far, we’ve seen that the deepest discounts on highly rated models are from GE, LG, and Whirlpool.

In years past, we’ve included quite a few deals on Samsung French-doors—models that perform well in our lab tests and which are often on sale. But according to data from our most recent refrigerator story, Samsung French-door refrigerators earn a Fair rating for predicted reliability, which means that CR cannot recommend them at this time.

Best Top-Freezer Deals

Blomberg Top-Freezer Refrigerator, 28 Inches Wide
The deal: $1,149 at AJ Madison and Appliances Connection

This narrow Blomberg top-freezer is a top-performer and a great deal at almost $350 off its list price. It rates an Excellent for thermostat control and does well in our other tests, too. It comes in a stainless-steel finish and has an icemaker.

This Frigidaire top-freezer is a strong performer in our tests, with an Excellent rating for temperature uniformity (meaning it does a good job of mitigating warm and cold spots). Our latest survey shows that Frigidaire top-freezers are quite reliable, too. At just under $600, this stainless steel model is more than 40 percent off its list price, making it a great bargain.

The deal: $578 to $580 at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Best Buy

This Whirlpool top-freezer is a CR Best Buy pick, thanks to its combination of top-notch performance and relatively low price. Already a solid value at full price, this stainless steel model is marked down by about 30 percent for the holiday. It rates an Excellent for energy efficiency, but its controls can be difficult to use.

Wider than the Whirlpool above, this model isn't as strong of a performer—for example, it receives a so-so Good rating for thermostat control—but it offers an extra 3.2 cubic feet of usable storage space, which can make a big difference if your fridge is usually packed with food. This discount is around $300 below list price.

Best Bottom-Freezer Deals

This GE is a slick stainless steel bottom-freezer that runs quietly and receives an Excellent rating for temperature uniformity. It also comes with spillproof shelving and an icemaker, which make it a great buy for less than $1,000.

This GE bottom-freezer is discounted to the same price as the above model. The only differences are that it’s wider—giving you an additional 2.5 cubic feet of usable storage space—and it offers better energy efficiency. If this model will fit in your kitchen, it’s well worth it for the extra storage space and energy savings.

Kenmore Elite Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator, 30 Inches Wide

This Kenmore Elite bottom-freezer is one of the best models in our ratings, with superb scores in almost all of our tests. Kenmore bottom-freezers also receive an Excellent rating for predicted reliability in our latest member survey. This model is $900 off its list price, so now is an excellent time to buy.

One of our highest-rated bottom-freezers, this LG offers stellar performance in just about every test. LG bottom-freezers also receive an Excellent rating for predicted reliability in our latest member survey. This model was on sale last Black Friday for about $1,100—this year’s deal is even better.

Whirlpool Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator, 33 Inches Wide

This stainless steel Whirlpool bottom-freezer does well in our temperature tests, but it receives only a middling Good rating for energy efficiency. It comes with plenty of features though, including an icemaker, spillproof shelves, and half shelves for better organization. At $994, it’s almost 40 percent off its list price.

While it's a bit pricier than wider models below, this GE is about $700 off its list price.

Costco doesn’t offer as wide an assortment of appliances as its competitors, but its discounts are tough to beat. This GE side-by-side is on sale for $10 to $20 less than other retailers. At this low price of $1,179, you won’t get a through-the-door water/ice dispenser, but this model offers strong performance (with an Excellent rating for energy efficiency) and a wealth of features, including a stainless steel finish, an icemaker, an internal water dispenser, and uniquely adjustable shelves.

At just under $2,000, this GE is about $1,100 off its list price.

Kenmore French-Door Refrigerator, 36 Inches Wide

One of the few good deals we've found on a four-door French-door, you'll be hard-pressed to find another quality four-door model at such a low price. This 36-inch Kenmore receives an Excellent rating for temperature uniformity and comes with plenty of premium features to boot. Those features include an external water/ice dispenser, air filter, uniquely adjustable shelves, and a stainless steel finish. At $1,600, this model is over $2,000 off its list price.

This Kenmore French-door is one of the lowest-priced French-doors deals we've seen this Black Friday. Despite its low price, it still features a through-the-door water/ice dispenser, stainless steel finish, dual evaporators, and spillproof shelves. In our tests, it offers terrific performance, receiving a rating of Excellent for thermostat control. At $1,100, this Kenmore is over 50 percent off its list price.

Looking for a 30-inch French-door? Consider this Kenmore model. It performs very well in all of our tests, including for energy efficiency where it rates an Excellent. It has a stainless steel finish and comes with an external water/ice dispenser, digital controls on the outside of the door, and spillproof shelving. Sears is selling this model for almost $1,000 below its list price.

This 33-inch Kenmore French-door is a great buy at $1,300, which is over $1,000 below its list price. It lacks a water/ice dispenser, but it still comes with an icemaker, spillproof shelves, and a stainless steel finish. It also receives an Excellent rating for its low noise output and does very well in our temperature tests.

In addition to the door-in-door compartment (which lets you access frequently used items on the door without fully opening the cavity), this model comes with a stainless steel finish, dual evaporators, an external water/ice dispenser, a second icemaker in the freezer drawer, an air filter, and uniquely adjustable shelves.
