'Best view in Lubbock': Here's a peek at Texas Tech Club's multi-million dollar renovation

Considered the "best view in Lubbock," at least by Myrisa Rutter, the Texas Tech Club has offered members a clear view of the Red Raider Football games for more than a decade. The classic red and black space within the Jones AT&T Stadium will now sport a new look, just in time for a new season.

Rutter, director of member experience for the club, led a group through the hollowed renovation space June 23 while talking about the multi-million dollar renovation.

"If you saw the old Texas Tech Club, then you haven't been," Rutter said. "I'm excited to see everything completely updated, modern and new for all of our members to experience. It's going to be beautiful, with the best view in Lubbock."

Tommy Klein Construction has been tackling the extensive renovation, which started in the beginning of 2022.

"It's been fast and furious," said Jonathan Klein, representing the construction company. "Everything's kind of come to fruition very quickly in a short timeframe. The hardest part of this whole project is just timeframe, we're going to be back, open and running for football season."

An additional challenge ties in with shipping delays and demands.

"Sometimes, we've had to change (things)," Klein said. "Another (product) maybe isn't available, but within a few days ... we've been able to move quickly and get those things solved. That's probably been our biggest holdup, having to switch and find something that goes with everything that's already been selected."

What is new in the Texas Tech Club renovation?

The renovation will add about 95-105 seats for dining, a full-service kitchen, new artwork and displays.

"(The company) also upgraded to kitchen to be more of a full service," Klein said. "Whereas before, a lot of the food had to be produced in the downstairs kitchen and brought up here."

One big change will be to the bar, which had previously been in a corner, and will soon take center stage.

"We wanted to bring it out of the corner purely to do more bar-top seating," Rutter said. "We only had very limited bar-top seating. (Now), you can actually see our liquor and wine displays."

Club suites will be renovated with "theater-style seats," according to Klein.

"(The renovation) is going to add a lot to the club space," he said. "A bit more vibrant, exciting space to have meetings, dinners, and things of that nature."

There will be plenty of athletics-centric artwork, including a metal display near the escalator. Up close, it will look like regular bars, but at an angle the image of a Red Raider football player will appear.

"There's a lot of murals that are going up, so no matter where you turn, there's going to be some wood feature or a Texas Tech football player," Klein said. "It's going to look really cool."

"We are the premier social club of Lubbock, and this is a place to make new friends and lifelong memories," Rutter said.
