Bonefish Grill in Secaucus has closed permanently, report says

Bonefish Grill on Mill Creek Drive in Secaucus is among 41 locations that reportedly have shut down as part of a strategic move by their parent company, Bloomin’ Brands.

Bloomin’ Brands, the umbrella corporation behind Bonefish Grill, along with Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Outback Steakhouse and Fleming’s, made the announcement during an earnings call on Friday, citing the closure of "underperforming locations," CNN reported. Patch also reported on the closing.

Outback Steakhouse bore the brunt of the closures, CNN reported.

The decision to close the establishments was influenced by various factors, said Bloomin’ Brands CEO David Deno, including declining sales, reduced customer foot traffic, and the high cost of necessary investments to revitalize the locations. Deno noted that many of the shuttered restaurants were older assets with leases dating back to the 1990s and early 2000s, CNN said.

Of the 41 closures across the brands, 33 restaurants ceased operations on Friday, a spokesperson for Bloomin’ Brands told Nation’s Restaurant News.

Despite these closures, Outback Steakhouse has outlined plans to launch up to 18 new restaurants across the United States this year. The initiative reflects the chain's adoption of a redesigned restaurant layout unveiled in 2022. Currently, Outback operates about 700 locations nationwide, as reported by CNN.
