The Buzz: Enjoy closing, looking for new location. More on Raising Cane's, Wingstop

In this article:

After a little over three years at its current downtown Redding location, Enjoy The Store is closing.

But the local retailer that sells crafts, gourmet food items and other locally sourced things hopes to reopen sometime in the future at a different spot.

“Our goal is to find a new location but that’s in the works and so we are returning products to our vendors at a breakneck speed, but we also have lots and lots of other things in here still — our food items and a lot of our displays and things that we’re going to be selling off,” Enjoy’s James Mazzotta said in a video he posted on Facebook.

Enjoy moved to the 1261 Market St. location in late 2021 after relocating from the Cascade Square building on Placer Street downtown.

In the video, Mazzotta doesn’t say why they are closing or when the store’s last day of business on Market Street will be.

Mazzotta did not reply to a voice mail or email seeking comment.

“Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you over the rest of the month,” Mazzotta said in the Facebook post.

Before Enjoy The Store opened there, the 1261 Market St. storefront was home to Boardmart for more than 25 years.

When I spoke to Mazzotta in 2021, prior to Enjoy relocating, he said they had outgrown their Placer Street location, and that he was looking forward to the Market Street location because it had double the floor space.

Will Enjoy The Store stay downtown or move to Redding’s retail corridor, the Hilltop-Dana Drive area?

Stay tuned.

The year of the chicken in Redding continues

If you have been to Discovery Village on Dana Drive, you might notice a California Alcoholic Beverage Control notice of application in one of the storefronts.

That's Mister Peri Peri's Grill, the Portuguese chicken restaurant I first reported on last summer.

Lost in the news that national chains Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers and Wingstop are coming to Redding, I had forgotten the impending arrival of this local restaurant.

Nav Kandola, who owns Mister Peri Peri's, told me he hopes to open in Discovery Village by the end of this month.

Peri peri is Portuguese chicken that is marinated for hours and served with a choice of sauces that Kandola said vary from mild to hot.

Kandola, who is from Glasgow, Scotland, opened Pete’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in the former Famous Dave’s BBQ on Hilltop Drive in December 2020, amid the pandemic.

Kandola also owns Sourdough Bread Company next to Crumbl Cookies in the Save Mart shopping center.

Target openings for Raising Cane’s, Wingstop

National food chain Wingstop has signed a lease to open a location inside the former European Wax Center at the Cypress Pointe shopping center in Redding.

Speaking of Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and Wingstop, we now know more on their projected opening dates.

I had contacted both companies’ PR departments and I finally got an answer.

Wingstop expects to open in Cypress Pointe this fall, two doors down from Habit Burger Grill.

Raising Cane’s wants to start construction in December and open next summer. The restaurant will be one of the tenants in the new River Bend Commons, a shopping center at Dana Drive and Friendly Road that is being redeveloped from the old Costco Wholesale property.

Raising Cane’s and Wingstop will join Chick-fil-A, KFC, Popeyes, Chicken Shack and Wing Spot, and, of course, Mister Peri Peri's Grill.
