Cal Poly rolls out new online hub to connect students to off-campus housing

Cal Poly is launching a new off-campus housing portal intended to streamline the rental search process for students.

The university’s Off-Campus Housing Program has entered a into a partnership with EDUrain, an online off-campus housing marketplace that will give student renters a centralized, customized hub that will simplify the process of finding housing, Cal Poly said in a news release.

In addition to connecting student renters with property managers, EDUrain also offers a roommate search tool, a subleasing feature, a credit-building program through on-time rental payments, an alternative security deposit program, scholarship searches and other renter features, the release said.

According to Cal Poly’s 2018 Basic Needs Task Force Report, 12% of the university’s student body has experienced some form of homelessness during their time at the university.

Sarah Bacio, Cal Poly Off-Campus Housing Program coordinator, led focus groups and worked directly with students to better understand their needs and concerns prior to the partnership, the release said.

“We are excited to partner with EDUrain to provide our students with a comprehensive and reliable housing solution,” Bacio said in the release. “We are confident that this partnership will help us better serve our students and provide them with a positive off-campus housing experience.”

Cal Poly’s Off-Campus Housing Program launched in October 2022 and helps students identify and secure affordable, safe off-campus housing by identifying resources that assist with housing expenses, the release said.

“We are thrilled to partner with Cal Poly to provide students with an innovative and convenient off-campus housing marketplace,” EDUrain CEO Bryon Dawayne Pierson Jr. said in the release. “We believe that our platform will help simplify the off-campus housing experience and make it easier for students to find quality housing that meets their unique needs.”

Local landlords and property managers are encouraged to visit deanofstudents.calpoly.edu/landlordresources to post their rentals, the release said.
