If you're struggling to get to grips with the major political crisis that has been unfolding in Britain this week, take some comfort in the fact that you're not the only one.

Soon after the vote of no confidence was announced on Wednesday, Chrissy Teigen shared the thoughts of many of us as she tweeted to say: "Okay one of my goals for 2019 is to understand UK politics. I read and read and try and learn but my brain cannot grasp it."

In a second tweet, she summed the Brexit chaos up nicely by saying: "This is harder to understand than super smash bros!!"

Twitter immediately showed its support for Chrissy, who lives in the U.S, by letting her know that we totally get where she is coming from.

Singer Myleene Klass replied: "No ones gets it here either". Bake Off host Sue Perkins wrote: "Don't worry, we can't grasp it either..." and comedian Katherine Ryan told Chrissy: "You got it".

One Twitter user made reference to the moment when a Labour MP removed the parliamentary mace in protest earlier this week, before he was stopped on his way out of the chamber. Chrissy then chimed in with a valid question: "What's the point of being able to take the giant gold thing if the lady with the sword can just stop you and make you put it back?"

Another commenter user later tried to add some clarity by writing that Brits vote by "going to the nearest woods, finding the tallest oak tree and burying our ballots in holes beneath them", to which Chrissy replied, "This is all very good to know."

Conservative MPs will vote for or against May to stay on as leader in the House of Commons between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday. We'll come back to Chrissy - and Twitter - for more guidance on the situation then.
