City of Portage Approves Land Option to Wisconsin Battery
Company will manufacture green batteries for worldwide market.
PORTAGE, WI / ACCESSWIRE / December 21, 2023 / On 7 December the Portage City Council voted unanimously to approve an option for Wisconsin Battery Company (WinBat) to buy 17 acres of land in the Portage Industrial Park to be used for a new battery manufacturing plant. The plant will also include a battery recycling facility, be powered by solar to the extent possible, and include a daycare center for employees.
Wisconsin Battery Company (WinBat) is a startup manufacturer hiring workers being laid off from the closing Energizer plant in the city. WinBat looks forward to launching operations with trained, experienced and knowledgeable employees.

Industrial Batteries: Creating energy storage solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability of solar and wind power systems and maximize efficiency of connections to the grid.
Hemp Carbon Batteries: Innovating a sustainable alternative to lithium-ion batteries by utilizing hemp carbon as a key component. These batteries will offer improved energy density, longer lifespan, reduced environmental impact, and utilize domestically produced raw material thus addressing the national security risks associated with global lithium sourcing.
The company also aims to develop a better system of mass production, including input from experienced employees in planning and design.
Winbat will hold a press conference to present its plans for construction and manufacturing on the Portage site on 9 January at 2 p.m. in Room 125 of the Portage Enterprise Center, 1800 Kutzke Road, Portage, WI 53901.
