Courtyard Boston Copley Square Staff Go the Extra Mile to Support Guests & Bystanders
BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - May 6, 2013) - On April 15th, 2013, everyone's eyes were set on Boston. What is usually a day for celebration and excitement quickly turned to tragedy as two explosions were set off during the Boston Marathon. The Courtyard Boston Copley Square, just 200 yards from the finish line, has been a part of the marathon community since it opened its doors in June 2004, so when it came to stepping in and helping out, the staff at this boutique hotel in Back Bay, Boston did so without hesitation.
The staff at this Boston hotel near the Prudential Center knew something was wrong when streams of people passed by the front doors to escape the chaos. Runners, bystanders and marathon attendees approached the hotel in search of a safe haven. Staff members were quick to jump in, assisting with everything from providing blankets and water to exhausted runners to comforting shocked and distressed bystanders.
The well-trained staff at this Copley Square, Boston hotel made every effort to meet all requests, small or large. A space heater was retrieved for a guest in shock; freshly made turkey sandwiches, water, snacks and energy drinks were distributed; and displaced guests from the neighboring Lenox hotel were accommodated.
Past guests of this hotel by John Hancock Tower contacted the hotel to make sure the staff was safe, and days after the tragedy letters from marathon guests poured in offering words of praise. One marathon runner said her experience was "like meeting up with family." After she and her son were unable to get to their hotel, they were invited by Justin, a manager at the Courtyard Boston Copley Square, to "make [themselves] comfortable in our lobby" and were given everything from coffee to a cellphone charger. Unbeknownst to the manager, the woman is a Marriott Rewards® Gold Elite member, but at that time she was "just another person, a runner in their great city, struggling with the aftermath of an act of terrorism."
Another runner said, "The lobby was our home away from home… Your manager was totally in charge and so helpful the whole weekend… The turkey sandwiches and beer were a post-race meal we will never forget."
In addition to offering a safe space during the marathon, the Courtyard Boston Copley Square made a significant donation to The One Fund to benefit those impacted directly by the tragedy.
