Deep In The Heart Of Texas, A New ‘Flex’ Online MBA Program Is Born
From College Station, Texas: Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School is expanding its MBA program with the launch of the Flex Online Master of Business Administration program.
The program, which begins in August, will be primarily asynchronous, allowing participants to complete work on their own schedules, but will feature live weekly online cohort sessions. The curriculum was designed specifically for working professionals to upskill and reskill for the future of work.
“The Flex Online MBA program will provide the benefits of a Mays MBA to students on their schedule and at their location,” said Jerry Strawser, associate dean for graduate programs. “This program will strengthen the Aggie network through a new source of MBA graduates who exhibit the Aggie core values as they become leaders in the business world.”
Minimum requirements for admission to the program are two years of work experience and a bachelor’s degree. Interested individuals can submit an expression of interest with their resume and unofficial transcripts for review. Qualified candidates will then be offered interviews prior to an admission decision. With anticipated high demand, interested individuals are encouraged to submit an expression of interest as soon as possible.

Applications open for 4th annual John R. Lewis Racial Justice Case Competition
From Atlanta: The John R. Lewis Racial Justice Case Competition (JLCC) began at Goizueta Business School in 2020, when Willie Sullivan 21MBA observed his peers looking for ways to make a difference while corporations pledged millions to address structural inequities and racism.
Sullivan saw an opportunity to bring these parties together: Corporations needed action plans, and students can bring fresh perspectives. Sullivan decided to honor the late Congressman John R. Lewis, a civil rights advocate and U.S. Representative from Georgia’s fifth district, by naming the competition after him.
Through JLCC, student teams have the opportunity to create real and meaningful impact at national and global companies. Not only do students grow as teammates and construct innovative ideas and initiatives (skills they can apply in their future careers), but they’re also able to network directly with global organizations.
Since 2020, students from all over the country, representing more than 90 universities, have competed in the competition, pitching their ideas for change to leaders of Fortune 500 companies. The case competition has resulted in 36 corporate racial justice action plans to date.
Family legacy inspires new gift for accounting & auditing programs at McCombs
From Austin, Texas: The C. Aubrey Smith Foundation has donated $1.35 million in endowment funds to support students and faculty members within the University of Texas-Austin McCombs School of Business’ top-ranked accounting department. The gift will significantly enhance both the C. Aubrey Smith Accounting Education Excellence Fund and the C. Aubrey Smith Center for Auditing Education and Research.
C. Aubrey Smith Sr., BBA 1921, MBA 1926, Ph.D. Columbia University 1933, served on Texas McCombs’ Department of Accounting faculty for 48 years — from 1924 until he retired in 1972. His son, C. Aubrey Smith Jr., BBA 1952, a retired Austin real estate investor and investment adviser, has continued to give generously to the department long after his father’s passing in 1994.
Steven Kachelmeier, chair of McCombs’ Department of Accounting, said the elder Smith was a world-renowned scholar instrumental in establishing the academic discipline of auditing and in establishing the Master of Professional Accounting degree at UT in 1948. “Through his scholarship and giving, Smith senior helped shape an entire discipline, and we are immensely grateful to C. Aubrey Smith Jr. for his dedication to his father’s legacy.”
In U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of business specialties, the undergraduate and graduate programs at Texas McCombs’ Department of Accounting have held at No. 1 for 18 and 17 consecutive years, respectively.

In 2021, the GBC Roundtable introduced the Fast Track Curriculum Innovation Award which was created in response to the recent pandemic, where many graduate business programs put together creative solutions to delivering their programs and curriculum.
