Draymond Green gets league-leading, 15th technical foul rescinded
Draymond Green has been vindicated by the league office for a technical assessed against him during the second quarter of the Golden State Warriors’ win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. On Monday afternoon, the NBA rescinded Green’s 15th technical foul.
Green’s 15th technical would have inched him closer to his 16th, which would trigger a mandatory one-game suspension and a $5,000 fine.
Green was slapped with a technical after swatting Jerami Grant’s shot, getting whistled for a foul and reportedly roaring “Let’s effin’ go,” at the crowd. While it appeared Green was shouting at a referee, obviously the league disagreed.
Last month, Green suggested the league’s officials are ruining the game and expressed a controversial proposal for fixing the rift between players and officials to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.
It’s bad,” Green told The Athletic. “It’s horrible. It’s really bad. I don’t know why it is. But I think it’s ridiculous. It’s ruining the game. … It should be one of, if not the main priority, to be solved. It definitely should.”
Green has grown so frustrated with the situation that, when asked for a possible solution, he threw out a radical idea.
“They can get a new crop (of referees), a whole new crop,” Green said. “Too many personal things going on. Too much me against you. It just don’t work that way.”
Officials clearly have Green on a short leash and incidents like this are unlikely to alter Green’s negative opinions of their entire profession.
