Today the Duchess of Sussex is enjoying her first Royal Ascot alongside her husband Prince Harry and the rest of the royal family. While Duchess Kate skipped out on the big event for the first five years she was married to Prince William, Meghan Markle has jumped right in on the fun. She arrived by carriage alongside the Countess of Wessex, both in high-contrast looks.

Markle appeared to be drawing inspiration from Audrey Hepburn (much like on her wedding day) wearing another dress by Givenchy. The duchess looked regal in a white relaxed silk shirt dress with lace embroidery and an asymmetrical hem, she completed the look with a custom Philip Treacy hat. The London-based milliner is well known for supplying hats and fascinators to the British aristocracy.

The accessory resembled a modern take on an oversized headpiece worn by Audrey Hepburn from her iconic film My Fair Lady in 1964.

Much like Hepburn, the Duchess has a growing affinity for the house of Givenchy. Markle shocked the world when she wore a custom Givenchy dress by Clare Waight Keller on her wedding day last month, after it was rumored she would be wearing Ralph & Russo. While the dress was met with mixed reactions, its clear the Duchess now has strong ties to the French house.

The bateau neckline was a signature of Hepburns, and also bared resemblence to a Givenchy dress she wore in her 1957 film Funny Face. The actress was a well-known muse to Hubert de Givenchy, and wore his designs almost exclusively.
