Emerging Markets Report: A Turning Point for Fiber Optic Stocks

In this article:

ORLANDO, FL / ACCESSWIRE / July 2, 2018 / A recent essay from Motley Fool sheds some important light on the significant turnaround for bell-cow optical communications stocks which saw significant gains in recent months, NeoPhotonics, Lumentum Holdings, and IPG Photonics most notably.

Industry stocks had been beleaguered by numerous adverse factors including some hesitation on 4G equipment orders as telecoms figured out their 5G futures, a generational sea change in transceiver modules which created some stasis in ordering while it pans out and a near standstill in Chinese fiber optic equipment orders in 2017 and major trade issues for China's largest equipment vendors with the U.S., according to the report.

However, May saw a general rise in the category on positive news for the industry with the aforementioned issues taking large steps toward resolution. First, the Trump administration discussed the removal of sanctions on Chinese networking company ZTE and then did just that in June. Most importantly, according to the Fool report "The technical specifications for 5G wireless networking are nearly complete after four years of polishing, possibly paving the way to the first equipment designs in June and business-ready solutions as early as 2019."

If this is indeed a turnaround, there should be a heightened interest in the market disruptive, enormous scale opportunity in the fiber optic category. Moreover, if this is indeed a turnover driven by macro events that are perceived as bullish to the industry, it is very early in turnaround with nary a Quarterly or Annual report able to fully reflect new business development from these eventa . . . yet.

Among the giants, there are other smaller and small-cap Fiber Optic companies endeavoring to gain or expand market share. For the last month, we've been focused on Hammer Fiber Optic Holdings (OTCQB: HMMR) and their efforts in the fiber optic space. Importantly, Hammer Fiber Optic distinguishes itself with three important factors:

  1. It's already operational and monetizing in a large market.

  2. It's perfected a unique hybrid method to go the last mile to the consumer or business.

  3. It has designs on a national service offering which, if implemented would bring tremendous scale to the company story.
