CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Encana Corp. (ECA) on Tuesday reported a first-quarter loss of $245 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had a loss of 20 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and restructuring costs, came to 14 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 10 cents per share.
The energy company posted revenue of $1.24 billion in the period.
Encana shares have climbed 23% since the beginning of the year. The stock has decreased 42% in the last 12 months.
