FDA lowers Ambien dosage

Citing safety concerns, the FDA recommended that doses of Sanofi's (SNY) sleeping pill Ambien and other medicines using zolpidem be cut for women. The FDA said in a statement that it's told drugmakers to change labels to advise a 5-mg dose for women, instead of 10 mg. The agency said even though zolpidem has been on market for 20 years, studies provide evidence it can impair functioning the morning after it's taken, potentially making it unsafe for users to drive. Sanofi shares rose 0.8% to 48.45.
