The first Babies R Us in the country to reopen is due July 19. Here's where.
After closing its last store in 2018, infant products retailer Babies R Us is reopening its first store in the U.S.: a flagship store at the American Dream mall on July 19, spokesperson Jessica Griffin confirmed via email.
It follows the reopening of Toys R Us with a flagship store at the Meadowlands' 3 million-square-foot megamall in December 2021.
And it comes as the fate of the infant goods chain buybuy Baby remains uncertain, according to CNBC, after another auction on the Bed Bath & Beyond property fell through.
Brand management firm WHP Global owns Babies R Us and Toys R Us, having acquired parent company Tru Kids in 2021.
“Our mission has been laser-focused on bringing them back to America,” WHP Chairman and CEO Yehuda Shmidman said in the January announcement of the store.
The opening of such a store at American Dream “sets the stage for a national rollout of Babies 'R' Us in the future,” Shmidman continued.
Toys R Us, formerly based in Wayne, filed for bankruptcy in 2018, closing all its stores. The chain was known for iconic toy brands for kids and the Geoffrey the Giraffe mascot, both now available at the American Dream store.

Details about the grand opening of Babies R Us were not clear. But once open, the 10,000-square-foot store would cater to new and expectant parents, grandparents and caregivers.
The store is leaning into its experiential offerings, such as photo ops, a stroller test track and a wishing tree “where friends and family members can share their well wishes for baby,” the January announcement reads.
Customers can also expect a baby registry lounge, a learning center for private events, educational workshops for parents and caregivers, and a Comfort Zone where parents can feed or change their baby.
