Florida man selling ’87 Mustang Batmobile

Oh, Florida. May God bless thee in all of your inexhaustible, epic weirdness. From the Treasure Coast via Craigslist comes the latest installment of the Batmobile, this one fashioned from a 1987 FordMustang and based, presumably, on the original 1966 Barris Batmobile, if not quite nailing it. Asking price is just $5,000.

In recent years we've seen a number of variants of this comic book- and TV-derived superhero cruiser, from a full-size Lego version, a Lamborghini-powered carbon fiber treatment and even a drag race pitting replica versions of the 1966 Batmobile against its 1989 update. The original 1966 Batmobile, built out of a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car, sold back in 2013 for $4.6 million.

This one comes with much more angular sidewalls than the 1966 original and a steering wheel console that resembles a Nintendo 64 controller. "The phone and dvd are just for show," the seller informs us. It's hardly pristine: It's got 131,000 miles on it, there's electrical tape on the steering wheel and visible dings and scratches on the metal in various spots. The upholstery on the rear seats looks pretty tired, too. But again, it's relatively cheap.
