The company announced it has recalled certain brands of its salad products for possible contamination with listeria.

The recalled products were distributed through retailers in 19 states: Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the outbreak has been linked to 10 illnesses, 10 hospitalizations and one death.

"We will continue to work with our partners and with Fresh Express to determine the source of this outbreak," said Frank Yiannas, FDA Deputy Commissioner for Food Policy and Response, in a statement.

The recall involves products with use-by dates featuring product codes Z324 through Z350. Consumers can find the product code on the front of packages under the use-by date. The FDA has the full list of affected products on its website.

Fresh Express said it launched the recall after Michigan's Department of Agriculture received a positive result for listeria from a test of a package of 9-ounce Sweet Hearts salad mix.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, infected people could start experiencing symptoms as many as two to three days after eating contaminated food. Mild symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, says the FDA.
