Georgia and Ohio State move up to Nos. 2 and 3 behind Alabama in AP poll

No. 2 Penn State let an 11-point lead slip away, and that could be what keeps the Nittany Lions out of the College Football Playoff in November.
No. 2 Penn State let an 11-point lead slip away, and that could be what keeps the Nittany Lions out of the College Football Playoff in November.

Ohio State’s win over Penn State was worth a three-spot jump in the post-Week 9 AP poll.

The Buckeyes beat the previously No. 2 Nittany Lions 39-38 on Saturday and moved up from No. 6 to No. 3 as a result. Alabama stayed at No. 1 through its bye week and Georgia moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 after beating Florida, which is reportedly in the process of firing coach Jim McElwain.

No. 4 TCU lost to Iowa State on Saturday and dropped to No. 10. Iowa State, which was at No. 25, is now at No. 14.

The new No. 4 is undefeated Wisconsin followed by Notre Dame to round out the top five. Notre Dame beat No. 13 NC State on Saturday.

Arizona, powered by dynamic quarterback Khalil Tate, moves into the top 25 at No. 23. The Wildcats beat No. 15 Washington State and the Cougars fell all the way to No. 25.

South Florida dropped out of the poll entirely after losing to Houston. The top-ranked team from a non-Power Five conference is No. 15 Central Florida. Fellow American Athletic Conference member Memphis is at No. 22.

Here’s the entire top 25. The first set of rankings for the College Football Playoff are revealed on Tuesday and we can pretty safely say that they won’t look exactly like this.
