HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Falmouth Academy girls lacrosse gets first varsity win in four years

The Falmouth Academy girls lacrosse team is in the win column for the first time since 2019.

After playing the last two seasons at the junior varsity level, the Mariners defeated Sturgis East, 12-8, on Thursday.

Seventh-grader Natalie Hurlbut dominated on the draw with seven draw controls and added three goals for Falmouth Academy (1-4). Margaret Lowell (four), Natalie Hurlbut (three), Faye McGuire (two), Susanna Lowell, Gracie Coggins, and Caroline Cazeault each found the back of the net.

Lowell and Hurlbut each added an assist and Willow Wakefield had 13 saves in net.

Sturgis East falls to 1-6.

Girls Lacrosse

Nantucket 14, Falmouth 10: Bailey Lower led the way on offense with six goals, five assists and 12 draw controls for the Whalers. Emerson Pekarcik finished with six goals and two draw controls while Cydney Mosscrop contributed two goals and an assist for Nantucket (5-2). Falmouth drops to 4-3.

Sandwich 10, Cape Cod Academy 9: The Blue Knights spread the ball around as Ryann Cobban, Riley Morrison, Avery Cobban, Kolbie Darmon and Kyla Darmon each had two goals. Kyla Darmon also contributed five assists in the win for Sandwich (7-1).

Ella Bartolomei led the offense with seven goals and two assists, Tilly Crosby added a goal and an assist, Emelie Jonsson contributed a goal, Reese Moreshead and Quinn Powers each had a helper, and Flynn Kayajan finished with seven saves for Cape Cod Academy (4-3).

Upper Cape 8, Greater New Bedford 7: Goalie Molly Petty led the way on defense with 11 saves in net for the Rams. Alaina Hines had four goals, captain Adryanna Turner had a hat trick, and Caitlin Greeley contributed a goal for Upper Cape (8-1).

Boys Lacrosse

Falmouth 9, Nantucket 8: After a two-game slide, the Clippers (8-3) got back on track with their second straight win. After a 3-0 start, the Whalers (3-3) have now lost three in a row.

Martha’s Vineyard 5, Monomoy 3: Aiden Conley had a hat trick in the win, and Will Baliunas added the other two for the Vineyarders (4-3) as they beat the Sharks (5-2).

Cape Cod Academy 15, Dennis-Yarmouth 9: The Seahawks move to 7-1, while the Dolphins fall to 2-4.

Middleboro 11, Mashpee 4: The Falcons drop to 0-8 on the season.

Baseball

Cape Tech 15, Bristol Aggie 2: Mike Tomlinson got his first varsity win and was 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs for the Crusaders. Josh Cohan was 2-for-2 and also had his first varsity hit, which was a bases-loaded triple. Josh Wiggin and Dylan Chase each had two hits for Cape Tech (4-5).

Boys Tennis

Old Rochester 4, Bourne 1: The Canalmen (4-5) drop below .500 with the loss to the Bulldogs.

Girls Tennis

Mashpee 3, East Bridgewater 2: Deliyah Fortes/Grace Dion won first doubles (6-3, 3-6, 6-0) as they defeated Liv Connors/Sophie Sheehan and Talia Dimaggio/Alina Doolin won second doubles (6-3, 6-4) over Chloe Wiger/Lucy Fernan to clinch the win for the Falcons.

Mariele Henley defeated Lindsay Maghee in first singles (6-4, 6-0) for Mashpee (4-2).

Old Rochester 5, Bourne 0: The Canalwomen were swept and fall to 2-7.

Girls Golf

Nauset 4, Monomoy 2: The Warriors handed the Sharks their first loss of the season at Captains Course. Ameila Stevens and Audrey Jones each scored a point for Nauset (4-1). Ava Larocco and Ava Packett eac scored a point for Monomoy (5-1).

Sailing

Sandwich 4, Nauset 0: The Blue Knights (1-5) win their first sail of the season with a win over the Warriors (1-3).

Martha’s Vineyard 4, Bishop Stang 1: The Vineyarders remain unbeaten on the season at 3-0.

Barnstable 4, Cape Cod Academy 1: The Red Hawks (5-2) sailed to victory with a win over the Seahawks (3-3).
