Insider Stock Buying Reaches AU$1.0m On NEXTDC \

In this article:

When a single insider purchases stock, it is typically not a major deal. However, when multiple insiders purchase stock, like in NEXTDC Limited's (ASX:NXT) instance, it's good news for shareholders.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

NEXTDC Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent purchase by Craig Scroggie is the biggest insider purchase of NEXTDC shares that we've seen in the last year. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of AU$12.72. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

While NEXTDC insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Does NEXTDC Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Our data indicates that NEXTDC insiders own about AU$13m worth of shares (which is 0.2% of the company). Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!

What Might The Insider Transactions At NEXTDC Tell Us?

It is good to see recent purchasing. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest NEXTDC insiders are well aligned, and that they may think the share price is too low. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. At Simply Wall St, we've found that NEXTDC has 2 warning signs (1 is a bit unpleasant!) that deserve your attention before going any further with your analysis.
