Insiders at AudioEye, Inc. (NASDAQ:AEYE) recouped some losses this week after buying this year, still down US$153k

In this article:

Some of the losses seen by insiders who purchased US$393k worth of AudioEye, Inc. (NASDAQ:AEYE) shares over the past year were recovered after the stock increased by 13% over the past week. However, the purchase is proving to be an expensive wager as insiders are yet to get ahead of their losses which currently stand at US$153k since the time of purchase.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At AudioEye

The Independent Director Anthony Coelho made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$256k worth of shares at a price of US$11.11 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$6.63). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that AudioEye insiders own 22% of the company, worth about US$17m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
