  • Jada Pinkett Smith announced she is working on a yet-to-be-titled memoir.

  • The memoir will detail Pinkett Smith’s upbringing, her “complicated marriage” to Will Smith, and motherhood.

  • The book will be released in the fall of 2023.

Jada Pinkett Smith’s career is ever-evolving. A musician, actress, producer, and talk show host (Red Table Talk anyone?)—it’s a wonder the 51-year-old has any downtime. But, she’s about to add a new title to her resume: author. Pinkett Smith recently revealed she is working on her very first memoir.

She is finally ready to share her life story in the yet-to-be-titled memoir, which has a tentative fall 2023 release date, according to People.

The book “chronicles lessons learned in the course of a difficult but riveting journey—a rollercoaster ride from the depths of suicidal depression to the heights of personal rediscovery and the celebration of authentic feminine power,” according to a press release.

The 51-year-old will recount her “unconventional upbringing” in Baltimore as the child of two addicts (and how she herself has struggled with addiction in the past), her life as a theatre student, and temporarily a drug dealer. The Red Table Talk host’s new book will also chronicle the journey that led her to star alongside her friend 2Pac, her path to meeting and marrying Will Smith, and her life as a mother.

Pinkett Smith will also open up about her “crisis at age 40” and “the excruciating choices she was forced to make to redefine her life in every way.” Though the memoir is not a love story, at the “heart of this powerful book are two unexpected love stories, one being Jada’s complicated marriage to Will Smith, the other being the one with herself,” according to the press release.

Dey Street Books Vice President and Editorial Director Carrie Thornton said, “At the center of all the speculation and false stories is a woman who, like so many women, has had to reconcile her personhood with the needs of those she loves. This memoir is Jada giving the world her truth, taking readers on a journey from lost girl to woman warrior.”

Pinkett Smith will finally open up about what she’s calling her “complicated marriage” to Smith. They’ve previously opened up about their non-monogamous relationship and the two made headlines in March when Smith smacked Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars after he made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s hair loss. Prior to the incident, Pinkett Smith had revealed she suffers from alopecia and opened up about hair loss on TikTok saying she didn’t “give two craps what people think about this bald head of mine, because guess what? I love it.”

We can’t wait to get our hands on her new book!
