Korea’s CJ ENM Acquires Majority Stake In Swedish Distributor Eccho Rights

Korean media conglomerate CJ ENM has acquired Swedish drama and formats firm Eccho Rights as it looks to bolster its business in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

The Korean firm has acquired a majority stake in The End distributor Eccho Rights, which has offices in Stockholm, Istanbul, Madrid and Manila.

Run by MD Fredrik af Malmborg and Managing Partner Nicola Söderlund, Eccho Rights internationally sells dramas such as Scandinavian arms dealer drama Conspiracy of Silence and Turkish revenge thriller Stiletto Vendetta (above) as well as formats such as Canadian competition format Battle of the Blades.

“The merger will create exceptional value for both sides to consolidate our global presence,” said Chul-yeon Kim, SVP, CJ ENM’s global business. “This will substantially enable us to leverage our premium contents to reach worldwide audiences offering unique experiences and enjoyment.”

“CJ ENM is the ideal partner for Eccho Rights in our ambition to build on our business models in television drama for the future,” added Malmborg. “Our experience in the Turkish and Western drama market creates a very solid link to Korea and the rest of Asia. To be a part of CJ ENM will enable us to grow and to develop an even stronger offering to TV producers worldwide.”
